Discours à l’occasion de la réunion de coopération industrielle franco-japonaise à Hô Chi Minh-Ville (25 octobre 2017)

First of all, I would like to extend a special welcome to my dear colleague, the Consul General of Japan. I’m very pleased also to host such a great number of Japanese companies and agencies at this official residence of France. It is a first. Welcome also to the French business people and agencies. They are used to coming here.

France and Japan enjoy a unique relationship filled with trust. Next year, we’ll be celebrating 160th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. This strong relationship between our two countries is as old as this house, as old as the big trees of our garden, which were planted in the middle of the 19th century. Like an enduring couple, we are always together to celebrate and to cooperate.

Our President and your Prime Minister meet at least once a year. Our two governments want to encourage projects, business partnerships and investments between French and Japanese players, including in third countries such as Vietnam.

Vietnam is already the home of successful French-Japanese joint-ventures. Let me mention three of them :

-* Mekong Energy is an example of a cooperation between EDF, SUMITOMO and JERA. We hope that this power plant will make a French-Japanese « baby » in the coming months in Vietnam

-* In the field of urban transport, many French companies have been chosen by Japanese prime contractors for HCMC Metro line 1, even though the project is in majority financed by JICA. Thank you to Japan, JICA and the Japanese companies for your trust in French companies and technologies.

-* In the water production and wastewater treatment business, I am glad that French engineering firms have worked succesfully with Japanese companies in Vietnam.

This example show that when French and Japanese companies are joining hands in Vietnam, this a win-win ! Because we share the same vision of high-quality, sustainable development and transparency in Vietnam.

I am sure this first meeting will lead to even more cooperation between France and Japan in HCMC.

Thank you Business France for organizing this event and thank you Pernod Ricard for providing the drinks and giving us the chance to enjoy them.
Thank you very much for your attention. Have a great evening ./.
